Irving Penn: Vogue cover, 1950
Penn created his first cover photo — a color still life of a glove, belt and pocketbook — in 1943. He would go on to provide images for more than 150 of the magazine’s covers over the next fifty years. This black and white photo was used on the front of the April, 1950 issue.
